The Reason

This week is National Mental Illness Awareness Week.  In honor of this week, and in honor of all those struggling with mental illness--whether their own, or a loved one's--I opened this blog.  I have a sister named Elaine who has bipolar disorder.  I love her dearly, ALL of her.  This blog will tell some of the story of how she got diagnosed, and how our family dealt with it.  I (Leslie) will be writing, and so will Elaine, and I hope eventually my other family members as well. It is our intention to tell our story in gory detail, to be as honest and transparent as possible in an effort to encourage others going through a similar situation that while, yes yes YES there will be bad days, there are also some extremely GOOD days.

This song always makes me think of Elaine.  Through her (and our) journey into bipolar-land, we've all come to learn new things about the God we love and serve.
